The incidence of cancer gall bladder is rising in India and certain states like U.P , Bihar , Orissa , Delhi and West Bengal have been termed as the Indian gall bladder cancer belt.
Cancer gall bladder is more common in females who are obese and more than 40 years. It has a poor prognosis due to its rapid dissemination and difficulty in establishing early diagnosis. The symptoms are vague abdominal pain , dyspepsia, inability to digest fatty food and loss of appetite . In later stages , jaundice and abdominal distention appears.
Surgery is the main modality of treatment if diagnosed early. If cancer has spread to liver or is unresectable, then chemotherapy is given. Chemotherapy can be infusional as well as oral depending on disease and patient status.
